Meet the Founder
What would make a successful, educated, 40-something professional with 20+ years in IT data analytics at several Fortune 500 companies walk away from a (so-called) prestigious executive level career to get into the furniture and cabinet making business? The question I get asked the most since I founded Glenlake Studio is "What's your story?"
My Story
I began my journey in 2020, during the lockdowns. Like most others, I started to notice all the little things about my house that needed improvement. The first thing I tackled was the door jamb of our 2-car garage pics. I bought a few large beams of cedar, a japanese pullsaw and some stain and attended YouTube university. I realized that I had a knack for wood work. I also found it was a nice diversion from my day job - leading a data, AI and analytics organization for AWS. With the remaining wood and during my time off, I built simple furniture, a bench, some wall decor. Because my son was a toddler at the time, I choose to only use hand tools, no machines and really honed my skill using Japanese tools and techniques which put a focus on precision and quality. Eventually I built everything from toy boxes to California King-sized bed frames for friends and family. As people would observe my work, some would comment that I should do it full-time. Maybe it's in my DNA, my father spent 30 years building furniture for La-Z-Boy and was well known for his ingenuity and craftsmanship. Thus the seed was planted and for a year I planned my exit from corporate America. Since that exit, and with the support of my family, I have been able to build out a shop big enough to handle large orders, design and build cabinets and furniture to client specifications and create a uniquely positioned company here in Dallas Texas.
